I don’t have a place to photograph right now, my studio walls are unfinished insulation and studs. Maybe I can be ok with just using an outside backdrop. I might still want to dig out the big dslr camera and tripod, this is just an iPhone snapshot. But I would love to make an easy way to get some of my newer urns up on the etsy ship so you can see how the glazes have shifted and the new popular fonts.
We have been exploring the parks in our new neighborhood in Portland. Even though we are only ten miles away from our old house, it really feels like we moved to a whole different city. This photo is Spring Garden Park that just opened not far from our new house, we also love the nearby Marshall Park, Tyron Creek Park, and all of the riverfront parks along the Willamette. I hope someday we will have the studio set up so we can do a studio sale and open studio event so you can come visit too, but currently I’m a completely online shop.
SUMMER ASSISTANT - I’m just going to put it out there- we are looking to see if there is a special person who might want to be a summer part time studio assistant/ part time nanny. We have a separate studio apartment/ playroom available above the studio that you can live in (apartment shown In photo above studio) This position could start immediately and last all summer (and possibly longer if it worked out for all of us). We were thinking the pottery work would be paid and watching the kids would be in exchange for the place to stay but it is all up to negotiation. Our new home studio is in the Marshall Park neighborhood of SW Portland OR. Must have experience and references with watching kids, pottery skills not necessary. Studio assistant would help with packing boxes, firing, cleaning, prepping work, organizing studio, and minor production assistance.

I recently posted a photo of this urn, a very very big beautiful custom urn. Except I had the dates wrong, and I had to remake it. Luckily the remake turned out really nicely too. All of my custom urns have a full satisfaction guarantee. Your mistake, my mistake, the post offices mistake, a change of design, the glaze turned out unexpected, etc... it’s all covered. Please just let me know within 15 days of receiving it and I will remake and ship for free. These urns are meant to be cherished and loved, and I just want to be sure to get them exactly right. And repeat customers have access to a 25% off coupon code for my etsy shop. Feel free to share that code with a friend. Thankyou25 is the code.
Progress photo of studio set up. I finally have everything moved out of the old studio and almost set up in the new studio. We are still hoping to add wall paneling or sheet rock, maybe add some windows, and someday make that garage door have more of a glass opening. But for now it’s great. The kiln has temporary power so the 2 of 3 kilns are working (kiln shed is seen out back). Throwing station, stamping station, glazing station, cork cutting station, box packing station, temporary desk, and storage for everything. The second bay of our garage is full with house things while we unpack, but someday we will clear that out and I will take over the next garage bay too and double my space. Now it’s time to get caught up in my orders!
I have many orders shipping out today, and many more in various stages of progress. It’s been a super busy last couple of months and there have been a lot of orders shipping out later than I hoped. I am working as hard as I can and hopefully I can get the new kiln plugged in soon and the other kilns moved over from my old studio as soon as we get the big electrical upgrade in place. For now it’s been very hard and inefficient transporting everything back and forth across town between my two studios, and managing the kids without a good child care plan and a consistent routine. Hopefully just a little bit longer and we can get past this transition and back in track! Thank you to all of my customers for your patience and all of our family for your help. This photo is of a gorgeous very large urn that I am shipping today, sitting on our side porch. We love this new house already.
Our house is finally listed for sale. Perfect house for a potter or artist. It’s in the Alberta neighborhood if you are looking.
Happy Mother’s day! I just increased my etsy custom urn sale to 25% off for the next month. No coupon code necessary, it supercedes all the other codes this month. Photo taken from deep in the woods at the backyard yard of our new house.
New kiln shed progress photo. It’s still missing the doors, kilns, electricity, etc. But soon I will be back up and running! It’s been very difficult working out of two partial studios spread across both sides of town. I think just a couple more weeks and I will be ready to get back up to full speed in my studio! My studio will be behind the garage door, this is just a building for the 3 kilns.
I just shipped off this custom set of spice bottles yesterday. I liked how it turned out so much that I made a custom listing for the same set of colors (your choice of spice names), listed in my etsy shop.
I just shipped out this big and beautiful urn tonight. I love how it turned out, this one was a custom special sized urn.
The best thing about moving is that I am finding some of my missing stamps! Here is my current collection, including the new custom heart sizes that just arrived from the Czech Republic.
Here is a photo of my new studio at our new house. We have a lot to do: finish the walls, maybe add some walls, add windows, change out the garage doors for something with more glass, put a utility sink in place of the washer/dryer. The kiln shed will be located outside by the back side garage doors. I am most excited about getting some large windows on that wall for views of the adjacent forest. I think I also need to add a small wall section to use for standing against when throwing. My current studio is very tiny, but i also take over most of our house when I unload the kiln and need to pack 40-60 orders at once. It will be great to have my throwing space, glazing area, packing area, office space, and hopefully photo set up all in one space, with the kilns outside. I’m still in the middle of a very large batch of work and open orders so I can’t move studios until I can get a break in my orders or find a way to have a seamless transition between the two spaces. Good thing my mom is coming to visit us soon to help hold the baby and watch the 3 year old so I can work faster and hopefully move into the new studio soon!
A comparison of my current greys, and the only photo I took of today’s batch of urns that are shipping out. (Medium grey on the left, slate in the middle and dove on the right)

I wanted to share with all my Portland friends some photos from Farmer Katie, of @foxandbearurbanfarm . We did her CSA last year and totally loved it. We really enjoyed all of veggies that she grew for us, we loved our weekly deliveries, and even her beautiful Instagram photos from her farm as she was growing the food. Info on her CSA is on her website and Instagram profile. Thank you Farmer Katie! (All photos by @foxandbearurbanfarm )
I have been shipping out so many custom urns with special custom requests lately, and I usually unload the kiln and pack the boxes in the middle of the night so I can’t photograph them. Here are a handful of some that I really loved seeing before they shipped. I love what I get to make for some very special people and pets.
We are busy here dreaming up the next iteration of my studio as we prepare for the studio move, and we wanted to reach out to clay people who have built kiln sheds to ask what you use and what you would recommend? We are thinking of a simple metal building but we wanted too see if anyone has experience with simple metal kiln sheds. We are not seeing anything great online and are looking for ideas in what to build or buy. Please DM me or email me. Thank you! ( drawing by my daughter, age 3)
This coming month is going to be a little crazy for me. I am trying to finish up so many of my open orders, and I will also be moving my studio. I am looking for an assistant who can help me with the studio move and possibly help getting these orders finished and shipped. Cleaning, packing the studio, moving, organizing, assembling shelves, etc. I think I could use an assistant for at least a month starting in early April, maybe also into part of May depending on how long it takes. No clay experience required. Email me if you are interested. The old studio is in NE portland, and the new one will be in SW Portland. Vitrifiedstudio@Gmail.com
I am hoping to finish up my new stamp palette this week, including this larger cat silhouette stamps and the smaller forever loved stamp shown here. I have one more custom stamp that I had made coming soon and then I can finish up the new stamp palette and update all of my listings with it.
