Tonight is my first reception in my gallery. I have been here over a year, but have never had a true reception. This one is tied to the NCECA conference reception schedule, I will be on tonight's reception shuttle route. I will have some snacks for you, and plenty of new work. I hope to have energy too, I have finally gotten over my bronchitis, so I am very excited to just be able to breathe again. I opened at 12 today and I am open until 9 tonight. Tomorrow and Saturday I am open from 12-6. #vitrifiedstudiocollection #nceca2017 #nceca
I had a chance to visit some #nceca2017 exhibitions this morning before my own gallery opened, here is a glimpse of the very fantastic show All Lands/ Omnus Terra curated by @hey_yonder_shop and @shannongarson . These amazing sets are by @vickigrima I will only get to see a few of the ceramics shows that are up for NCECA this week, with my own gallery hours to keep, but I made sure to visit this one. #omnusterra #gallery114
That's the #nceca2017 shuttle bus stop right outside my gallery. It's a busy day here.
I am open and set up for #nceca2017 . I just unloaded a kiln full of large bowls, as well as lots of cups and canisters. I am on the shuttle route today, and also on the reception shuttle for tomorrow night- so that means I am having a reception tomorrow evening! My regular hours on Friday and Saturday. I hope to see you if you are in town. 5001 ne 30th at Alberta . #vitrifiedstudiocollection
Finally a shot of me at the wheel. I am putting up my nceca exhibition this weekend in my gallery. It should be all set up by Monday along with full shelves of new work. My bronchitis is finally passing, so I can actually get some work done.
More Portland rain.
Today was my first chance in a month to add new listings to my etsy shop. I usually photograph my favorite custom orders as I ship them out, and the when I have time I turn those into new listings in my etsy shop. It feels good to take a moment to update my shop but I am still running a week or two longer on orders, so my lead time is stretched right now. I hope to be back on track next month. Thanks everyone who has ordered custom items from me, and thanks for sharing photos with me of your custom in special places in your homes. I love when people post photos of their custom vitrifiedstudio items and tag me. It means so much to me that you love the finished pieces!
Thank you @iamthelab for selecting me as the HM100 artist of the year. Visit their website iamthelab.com to read the interview that I did for them ( which I describe my current thoughts of being a maker) and to learn more about HM100, Home of the Modern Maker which includes many many other amazing makers. Thanks Brett!
I use one side of the credenza for my daughters toys. We can sometimes get two hours of her happily playing beside me while I work on orders in the gallery ( while the gallery is closed). Being pregnant limits the amount of time I can work, as all of my work is physical, so now I need to attempt to split my work day into two short parts with a big rest in the middle of the day. So happy we found RIE to help us learn how to learn independent play.
I have brought my sale shelf back, a bunch of odds and ends and seconds for ceramics, and I am also starting to put much of the non-ceramic work on sale also ( napkins, tea towels, table runners, coasters, cutting boards) as I have learned what sells and what doesn't sell in the gallery. I don't have these sale items listed online, but if Instagram followers come in I will offer an extra 15% discount on these 25%-50% off sale items if you ask for it.
I am here today and tomorrow, my usual 12:30-6 hours. Next week I will be open Friday and Sunday instead of Friday and Saturday. #vitrifiedstudiocollection
If you've been in the gallery, you have seen that I also have some of my mom's pysanky eggs here (she is @sweetbing ). I have a special pair of eggs with hearts, I am hoping someone might want them for Valentine's Day. Her eggs are $20 each, but my current 25% off sale for everything non-ceramic includes her eggs. I am here today and tomorrow from 12:30-6. #vitrifiedstudiocollection #pysanky
I made it into the gallery in this icy mess. The sidewalks are covered in ice though, so maybe come tomorrow instead of today. I'll be here making and making both days, as I still have a big pile of open orders to finish up. I am still running my 25% off sale for accessories, I have lots of tea towels, linen napkins, wooden accessories, etc that are on sale as I start to redefine the focus of the shop this year.
Studio Assistant needed! Just a quick post to see if there are any NE Portland folks interested in helping me as a studio assistant. I could use maybe 4-5 hours for one afternoon a week, helping me glaze and load kilns, move stuff around, and some general studio and gallery floor cleaning to control dust. Any day from Monday to Thursday would work, ideally from 1-5 pm or so just one day a week. No experience required, but hopefully you can left heavy things and don't mind my craziness.
Let me know asap, I am hoping to find someone to start this week. Thanks!! Shelley Vitrifiedstudio@gmail.com
Finally have the energy for my larger pieces. It seemed like everyone ordered my extra wide utensil holders after the holidays so I have a bunch of these to throw. I am hoping to have superwoman strength tomorrow to throw a bunch more. I still have sale listings hidden throughout my etsy shop, including these.
For the last Thursday event tonight, I still have work up by 4 guest artists. @careenstollceramics @whitebikeceramics @jeanettezeis and @jmarsicek. I will be open until 9 tonight. I am also doing 25% off most non-ceramic accessories. Hope to see you tonight, and I am also open Friday and Saturday 12:30-6. I am ending my Sundays in the gallery, back to my normal weekly schedule.
I'm back in the studio with NEWS, after a long break. It took me a week to recover from NZ. But the four of us made it, that includes the baby boy due in June that happily traveled along in my growing belly. I have a big list of open orders to dive into, a few dinner sets, dreams of finalizing my 2017 color palette, and lots of work to do for the upcoming #nceca exhibition in my gallery. I hope to get lots done in these next months, and then hopefully take a little break once the baby comes. If there is someone in Portland interested in sharing the gallery with me after March, please let me know. I would love to find someone else with a similar aesthetic who could also use the small space, for working and showing their work, it doesn't need to be a ceramic artist if the workstation needs are small. Thanks for following along, 2017 is already looking to be full of big changes.
My first chance to get back into the studio was today, but instead we marched. For my daughter, for my family, for my city and for my country. I am proud we were there alongside the 100k others in the pouring rain in Portland Oregon.
We are on our last day in NZ, heading to the airport in a few hours. Here is a video from the weekend in Coromandel our last little adventure here. I will be back in the studio as soon as possible to get out all of my open orders. Thank everyone who shopped online while I was out of town, it made the trip less stressful knowing I have work to go back to and this month's bills can be paid. See you soon Portland!
Still out on a little vacation in NZ, while our neighborhood back home gets snow. I heard it's up to 10" in our NE Portland neighborhood and it's going to keep coming. We will enjoy our time away even more knowing what a crazy mess Portland must be.
